Advanced Manufacturing of Transformers & Switchgear

Transformers and switchgear are the backbone of your electrical distribution system, and in most facilities they are also its oldest equipment. Replacing a switchgear lineup or a distribution transformer is a capital project measured in months of lead time and hundreds of thousands of dollars. In the majority of cases, the more intelligent path is advanced manufacturing: testing what you have, rebuilding what has degraded, and retrofitting modern protection into structures that still have decades of mechanical life left in them. That is the work RS Breakers & Controls does every day.

Dry-Type Transformers, Tested and Proven

On the transformer side, we supply, test and recondition dry-type distribution and control transformers. Advanced manufacturing here means the transformer goes back into service on proven margins rather than assumptions. Windings are verified with turns ratio testing and winding resistance measurement to confirm the electrical integrity of the core and coil assembly. Insulation systems are tested with a Megger MIT520/2 5kV insulation tester. Connections are inspected, cleaned and torqued to specification, and enclosures are restored. Every unit ships with a documented ANSI-standard test report and our 2-year warranty, so the transformer you install is a known quantity.

 Switchgear Reconditioning and Life Extension

On the switchgear side, our advanced manufacturing capability covers both the equipment inside the lineup and the lineup itself. Bus joints are serviced and verified by micro-ohm measurement with an AEMC 5600 micro-ohmmeter, catching the high-resistance connections that cause heating long before they cause failures. Insulation systems are cleaned, tested and restored. Breaker cells and cradles are inspected and repaired so draw-out breakers rack smoothly and make positive primary and secondary connections. For facilities with aging switchboards and low voltage switchgear from Federal Pioneer, Westinghouse, GE, Siemens, ITE and Square D, this kind of structured reconditioning routinely adds decades of reliable service to gear the original manufacturer stopped supporting long ago.

Draw-Out Breaker Service and Digital Trip Retrofits

The draw-out air breakers inside a switchgear lineup are where most of the wear, and most of the risk, actually lives. Breakers from your lineup pass through our complete remanufacturing process: full teardown, mechanism rebuild, contact service, lubrication to manufacturer procedure and reassembly to original specification. Where legacy electromechanical trip units are obsolete or unreliable, we retrofit modern digital trip units such as the URC AC-PRO-II, giving decades-old breakers adjustable protection settings, metering, event capture and communications. A trip retrofit program delivers modern selective coordination across an existing lineup at a small fraction of the cost of switchgear replacement.

Verification You Can File

Every claim we make about a piece of equipment is backed by a measurement. Remanufactured switchgear breakers are proven by primary injection testing on a Phenix Technologies HC Series high current test set, which pushes real fault-level current through the breaker to verify its trip curve. Insulation resistance, contact resistance and secondary injection results are recorded alongside it. Reconditioned transformers and switchgear assemblies are re-tested against baseline values before release. The complete results land on ANSI-standard test reports you can hand directly to your engineer, your insurance carrier or your inspector.
